Hello, I am Jennifer and I am a teacher in a 1st – 3rd grade public Montessori classroom in Oakland, CA. I am also married to my best friend Zak and we have two wonderful sons, Xavier and Caleb. When I’m not in the classroom, I love spending time with my family, camping and drinking a hot cup of coffee while getting lost in conversation with my husband. Before my life as a teacher, I spent a decade working in communications in both the non-profit and private sectors in New York City. Since childhood I have had a dual calling and passion for both teaching and writing — so when my family made the move across country and I had the chance to go back to school to study teaching I was ecstatic to finally fulfill my lifelong dream of becoming an educator!
In my classroom, one of the first things I celebrate with my students is that mistakes are for learning, so it is with this in mind that I seek to create a place where teachers can share their ups and downs and act as peer mentors in weekly blog posts or podcast. After all, it has truly been my students and colleagues who continue to truly shape me as a teacher.
